Cerro San Cristobal

The best panoramic viewpoint

Cerro San Cristobal (or in eng. St. Christopher’s Hill) is the best panoramic viewpoint that one can receive of the city. The best time to go is in the morning, in order to see a full view of the city. The hill is a part of the Park Metropolitano, and can be climbed by foot, bicycle, taxi, car or cable car or funicular. We recommend taking the funicular.

Cerro San Cristobal is famous for being a spectacular viewpoint but also because on the summit it has a big white statue of the Virgin Mary (36 m high) Santiago's most conspicuous natural landmark. The statue can be seen from almost any where in the city, especially in the night when it is illuminated.

It is possible to spend an entire day atop of the hill. The park has a zoological garden, a wine museum, a cultural centre, restaurant, gift shops, picnic area, swimming pools, botanical garden and spectacular views of the city. It is a popular place for jogging and biking.

We would recommend you to eat a “Mote con Huesillos” (typical Chilean sweet dessert made of peach), while enjoying the view.

How to get there:

  1. Take the metro to Baquedano, cross the Plaza Italia and go towards Barrio Bellavista. The funicular station is at the end of Pio Nono Street.
  2. From the apartments, you just walk 10 through the Park Forestal and you reach Pio Nono.
