Crossing the city Mapocho River is 110 km long and flows from the Andes Mountains onto the west and divides Chile's capital in two, one in a east and the other in a westerly direction. There are several bridges, so that one can cross the bridge. It is believed that the name of the river is misspelled and that the correct meaning would be “Mapuche” which means “people of the land”. Mapuche is the native inhabitants of central and Southern Chile. The river is of a great important to the city, and many famous writers have written songs about it, for examples Víctor Jara (“el rio Mapocho”). |
