About Chile: Health & Safety

No vaccinations are required to enter Chile. In general the city’s water supply is absolutely safe. However the water contains high levels of minerals, which might cause an upset stomach during the first few days. Therefore drink bottled mineral water and a little tap water in order to get adapted. Outside of the main cities consult whether you can drink the tap water. Wash raw foods carefully before eating them, especially fruits and vegetables.

If you would become ill please contact one of these hospitals. They are the most recommended in Santiago. The first named in 2 min drive from the apartments.

Name of hospital Address Emergency Number
Clínica Santa Maria Av Santa María 0410, Providencia 02-4612001
Clínica Las Condes Lo Fontecilla 441, Las Condes 02-2105150
Clínica Alemana Av. Vitacura 5951, Vitacura  02-22101111

Pickpockets

Santiago is the safest city in South America when it comes to robbers. However it is common that pickpockets will be around in tourist areas. Please be aware especially when you take the subway. Hold your hands on your handbag (wallet) in front of you. When you are in restaurant or café don’t put mobile on table, it can be snatched. Take copies of passport (and other valuable documents) in case it would be stolen. Be very aware of pickpockets in the subway!!! Don’t go to Cerro Santa Lucia in the evening due to safety reasons.
